Fulbourn's new Director of Music

Chris Totney took up the new post of Director of Church and Community Music in Fulbourn in September 2021.  Chris’s love of music began as a member of the choir at St Thomas’s Church in his hometown of Stourbridge, West Midlands, under the directorship of Andrew Fletcher, with whom he also began studying the organ.  He later moved on to Durham University, reading Music alongside successive organ scholarships at University College and Durham Cathedral.

After graduating, Chris turned to school teaching and completed a GTP course whilst working as a Graduate Assistant at The Chorister School, Durham, before moving to Wiltshire in 2006 to become Assistant Director of Music at Dauntsey’s School.  In 2016, he went on to become Director of Keyboard Studies at St Mary’s School, Calne and, over a ten-year period dating back to 2011, combined these school posts with the Organist and Choirmaster role at St John’s, Devizes – a church with a thriving choral tradition.

Having spent the vast majority of his life working with schoolchildren right across the age range, and with amateur choirs of all ages, he is delighted to have moved to Cambridgeshire to help inspire more music-making in our community.  Chris lives in Cherry Hinton with his wife, Jennifer and young daughter, Rosie, and, in his spare time, enjoys domestic travel and being an ‘armchair follower’ of most major sports.

He can be contacted on 07811 629062 or by email.
